When in utero was re released in a stunning super deluxe package earlier this year an easy highlight of the release was the amazing 2013 mix by original album producer steve albini that presented a version of the album that was even more raw and intense than the original. September 24 2013 the 20th anniversary reissue of nirvana s third lp includes a remastered version of the original mix b sides outtakes and a slew of embryonic demos along with a new mix. Nevermind is put to shame by this raw all out blistering achievement cut with such wounded beauty in dumb and all apologies which apparently has some piano. Disc 2 the 2013 mix is actually a brand new mix of the record by albini noveselic grohl and smear.

On the deluxe edition cd you also get a 2013 remix of the album also mixed by steve albini. Nirvana s in utero 2013 mix headed to vinyl. It is a very interesting take on such a classic album. I ve been anxiously awaiting the super deluxe 20th anniversary edition of in utero after hearing albini speak to vish khanna on his podcast kreative kontrol.

This album contains the original 1993 mix plus all of the b sides and demos. In utero is by far my favorite nirvana album. To me this was as close to getting the albini mix i ve wanted. A totally overlooked masterpiece.
